About

After completing six formative years of serving and learning alongside the students at Salinas Valley Community Church and Harbor Chapel Community Church, we made it our mission to put all of our energy towards creatively living out and embodying the Church to the community. It has been in living this vision to be the Church that we have come to life in our roles as participants in God’s Kingdom. Primarily, we have both been teaching in the local public school system, which has brought much joy…and gray hair!

Jon has also coached a local high school golf team, was the Staff Pastor at Mount Hermon Christian Camps this past summer, continued with his speaking and writing and is completing a masters program in Theology and Ethics at Fuller Theological Seminary.

In addition to teaching squirmy 4th graders everyday, Jan has been carrying a child for 13 of that past 15 months (we are pregnant again…8 months along!), worked as an esthetician for 5 years and been a regular event coordinator with all the gatherings we have hosted.

Our greatest desire is to live out the love of Jesus among those who otherwise might not walk through the Church doors while inviting and developing fellow Christians to identify their unique calling as participants in God’s Kingdom. After almost a year of conversation and numerous trips to two of their sites (Vancouver and San Diego), we have committed to going on staff with Nieucommunities. We have been greatly encouraged to see that they are living out what we are most passionate about and have done so for the past 10 years all over the world.

NieuCommunities is a collective within Church Resource Ministries, a mission committed to developing leaders to strengthen and multiply the Church worldwide. Over 400 CRM missionaries live and minister in nations on every continent, coaching, mentoring, and apprenticing those called to serve the Christian movement in their setting. Nieucommunities consists of missional communities scattered around the world that mentor people to follow God in the way of Jesus...a community of leaders and explorers who desire to go deep with God and one another, to be a redemptive presence in the neighborhoods we live, and to shape and send missional leaders into the world beyond us.

What We Will Be Doing:

  • Mentoring developing leaders and receiving mentoring by life coaches
  • Completing Seminary studies
  • Leading and participating in weekly gatherings (academic training, church service, prayer walks)
  • Living out mission: engaging our community for the Kingdom (coaching, volunteering, etc…)
  • Advocating for the oppressed: refugee populating, homeless, low income families, border population, victims of domestic violence, inner city teenagers
  • Embodying the Church as a covenant community: shared meals, living in close proximity, common spiritual rhythms/practices
  • Encouraging and empowering Mexican church leaders across the border
  • Partnering with other church communities in the neighborhood and throughout San Diego as we seek to develop leaders and engage the community
