Dynamics of Golden Hill

It would be easy to think that being missionaries in San Diego is a bit “close to home.” At first, we were even curious, so we will give you a taste of the day to day. The team in San Diego has developed a burden for a particular neighborhood (7 by 14 blocks) called Golden Hill. This neighborhood is one of the forgotten places within the city. Seven years ago it was a gang-infested area (known as Heroin Hill), but due to some amazing community programs it is now turning around.

Golden Hill is home to a mixture of young Latino families and single, edgy artists. It is an eclectic and vibrant community, and yet “dicey” and in need. We, along with our team, will be actively seeking to engage this neighborhood for the Kingdom. Our team is also doing some work in nearby needy neighborhoods and over the border in a
couple of areas where they are empowering Mexican leaders as they invest in and improve their neighborhood. Having led many missions trips to Mexico and working in a largely Spanish speaking school district the past couple years, we look forward to having the opportunity utilize our experience and love for the Mexican culture.

There are many other ministry opportunities that are already in motion that
we are excited to participate in that we will share in upcoming posts.
